Mega container ship METTE MAERSK had to make an emergency maneuver in order to avoid collision with sport boat on Elbe, wrote Hansa International Maritime Journal. Date wasn’t mentioned, accident took place either when METTE MAERSK was arriving at Hamburg on Sep 1, or when she was leaving Hamburg on Sep 3. The skipper of speed boat didn’t react to alert calls on a radio, so METTE MAERSK had to maneuver in dire straits of Elba, which is a very dangerous undertaking, in fact it’s an accident in itself. Water police later detained the boat, finding skipper, 30-year old idiot, under intoxication. Hopefully, he will be penalized, heavily enough to warn others to stay away from merchant ships, let alone giants like METTE MAERSK.
