Demise of a Tug Captain Leads Freight and Logistics Staff News This Week

Our Latest Update on Changes for Personnel in the Shipping Sector

UK – Sad news leads our weekly round-up of staff changes in the freight and logistics industry with the crew and staff of marine support company Svitzer saying goodbye to one of the company's longest serving members, tug master Ifor Jones, who passed away last month after a short illness. As seemed fitting, Jones' colleagues and friends gathered at the Port of Felixstowe to scatter his ashes from one of Svitzer's tug boats, for what is arguably the biggest send off for a single person the port has ever seen.

Ifor Jones started as a cook/galley boy on the tugs serving the Port when he was just 15. He worked his way to the role of Captain when he sadly passed away after 42 years of service. He is survived by his son Stephen and two step children Sally Ann and Jon. One of his colleagues told us:

“Ifor was hugely popular man amongst the Felixstowe people, most of his time off was spent with his wife in their motorhome. Always known as the gentle giant as he was such a kind man.”
