On Wednesday, a crew member injured on board a container ship was evacuated with the assistance of an all-weather lifeboat.
What happened?
The container ship Nienburg was about 15 nm south of Portland Bill in the English Channel when a crewmember suffered a hand injury.
The Weymouth station of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) launched an all-weather lifeboat to rescue the injured crewmember from the container ship.
Ship diverted:
The ship diverted north towards Weymouth while the RNLI lifeboat made its way to a rendezvous point.
A video obtained from the scene shows that conditions were calm, and the lifeboat transferred responders to the Nienburg to evaluate the casualty and prepared the injured member for transportation.
Injured crew member evacuated:
While both vessels were under way at a slow bell, the crewmember was transferred to the lifeboat, which brought him to shore.
Paramedics met the rescuers in Weymouth and admitted the crewmember to a local hospital.
