Upgraded Emma Maersk sails to Felixstowe, starboard swing for Berth 9. .18th January 2017

Previous record holder Emma Maersk sails from Colombo, Sri Lanka heavily laden to the Port of Felixstowe with a draft of 15.4 metres. The pilot requests two tugs for the starboard swing to go portside to Berth 9.
Emma Maersk has been upgraded last year, 2016, to expand her life span by 10 years and increase the capacity by 1300 TEU to 16850 TEU. The bridge has be raised to allow an extra layer of containers, the lashing fences have been extended and a huge scrubber unit has been added to make her more eco friendly.
As the Emma Maersk approaches the Harwich Approach Buoy, the Svitzer Deben heads out to be made fast on the centre lead aft before the Beach End turn into the harbour. Svitzer Stanford meets the Emma Maersk as she rounds the Beach End to a northerly heading. The pilot onboard the Emma Maersk gets the Svitzer Deben to put 50% power on astern to slow her down then increase to 75% as she nears Berths 8&9. As Emma Slows to a crawl, the pilot get the Deben to go out on the port quarter to start the starboard swing. After a few minutes the Stanford moves out from the ships side to the starboard shoulder to pull the bow around. Approaching the berth the Emma Maersk needs a push towards her berth. Final tie up was 5 and 2 each end with spring lines first
