Evelyn Maersk sails From a breezy Felixstowe Berth 9 two tugs 10th January 2017

Ultra large Evelyn Maersk sails from Felixstowe Berth 9 with a draft of 12.5 metres and two Svitzer tugs assisting the pilot. The Svitzer Stanford is made fast on the centre lead aft and Svitzer Sky made fast centre lead forward for the departure. While the fore and aft lines were being slackened, I noticed the major hazard flag (cat; A) flapping in the brisk north westerly wind which only meant some of the cargo onboard was highly flammable, like explosives.

Once the spring lines were released the pilot and the tugs worked together to pull the 397m ship away from her berth into the main channel to head out of Felixstowe for her next port of Antwerp. Svitzer Stanford was held for a powered in-direct around the Beach End turn out of the harbour.
