Have London Gateway Taken In Too Many Ships

Some very unhappy lorry drivers today At London Gateway

London gateway what a joke. Got in at 13.15 just for a box off. Got out at 16.30

London gateway at 16.30 today the nxt vbs for today was 20.00hrs and 3,4,5,6&7.00hrs all gone aswell

If you could point the terrorists in the gateway direction that would be great what a shambles that place is this week 6.30am -11.30 to get rid of an empty box applied for vbs yesterday 8.am was given one for 5pm hundreds of lorries queed on access roads waste grounds around the port absolute caos and their customer helpline telling hauliers not to use the port at this busy time and the reason (Wait for it ) .................... We have A ship in !!!!! And this was billed as the port to put Felixstowe out of business hold your head high Felixstowe this place isn't in the same league.

I cannot describe to you how bad it is, what I just wrote is only the tip of the iceberg I was talking to a guy there this morning who works for dp world the owners he told me that they were at the maximum for boxes and that they have 2 ships coming tomorrow and Saturday and unless there is huge movement of containers going out they won't be able to discharge the ship on Saturday

    1. This blog has very good coverage of dockside safety and industrial relations issues. For those issues it has become a must-read.

But the constant sniping at London Gateway is pure sour grapes and completely undermines the credibility of the blog.

Please report fairly on the strengths and weaknesses of all the UK's major container facilities: we all know Felixstowe has its issues too.

  3. Pot calling the kettle.........

I've lost count of the number of times I've spent more than 2 hours at Felixstowe. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Last Monday 1 HR 55 mins in trinity THA and it wasn't even windy!

  4. It will soon get better now the new md is taking over

  5. Even though gateway has had a few teething problems I would rather go there than Felixstowe , languard isn't quite so bad but trinity is a complete joke . After spending and wasting hours a week in T.H.A once on location it's the crane driver discretion when he services you . They are rude , obnoxious and down right ignorant , after updating Facebook , having a smoke and two cups of tea they might consider doing some work , cut a long story short they are a bunch of over payed under worked arseholes

    1. Not every RTG driver is "a bunch of over payed" I'm the one they called at the Felixstowe dock " the bloody foreigner " I don't watch videos on my mobile phone, i'M pay to work and I load and unload boxes as soon the job arrive under my RTG, I respect people, most of my friends are lorry drivers AND YOU KNOW WHY, i'M NOT AN ENGLISH LAZY Docker.

  7. london gateway has problems once in a while.... felixstowe, specially trinity its sucking every day. The crane drivers workbas they pleased, 30 kin before shift change they dont do crap and 10 min before they are happelly coming down the stairs, while 5 min after time the other one will go up very very slowly and once he reach his seat he stays there 15 more minutes checking his facebook and drink his tea because the fat bastard is too tired to start working

    1. Not every one, most of them have a lazy culture at the Dock, and the Management is the problem if they work properly that shouldn't happen, and then they have the useless Union as well to help.

  8. I can report no problems at Liverpool :)

  10. How do Felixstowe and Gateway compare with Southampton - its not often I have problems picking up boxes in Southampton

    ReplyDelete
  11. you guys at felixstowe need to get a grip of reality! It's been an exceptionally busy few weeks for gateway and their average truck turnaround time slipped during these times. Most drivers are in and out within half an hour, try to do that at felixstowe. Every driver complains about having to go there, only a handful of drivers complaining about gateway. You guys are just being childish because you finally have some competition and you don't like it. Grow up!

  12. I don't think it is too many vessels. More likely to be not enough hauliers. If Felixstowe didn't close carriers wouldn't be diverting to gateway.

  13. The best dock to me is Southampton dock, london gateway is shit, felixtowe not the best as well, krane drivers too fassi

  14. Fat lazy crane driving feckers

  15. felixstowe dockers are lazy and shit.but you hauliers are are dumb aswell.always in wrong location, driving where u shouldnt be,forgettting twistlocks.im sure in a few more years the dockers at gateway will star to slow down when ther equiptment gets older and staff get bored.

  17. Let's be honest most of you guys cursing the Felixstowe dockers can only be talking about the older generation of workers! And I'm sure you notice the difference when languard is manned up by them aswell!! You need to remember shipping always comes first aswell!! Half the problem lies with the place being under manned!

  19. Any truth in the rumour going around that morbidly obese, tattooed lorry drivers in cut offs will be banned from FXTLE?

  20. Felixstowe TTY shipping is king and so dock trucks get priority. As with most things in life it boils down to economics.Haulage companies have no financial leverage for being stuck in the THA whereas shipping lines impose penalties for delays. As for the rtg drivers? Well the bad ones spoil the reputation for the good ones,i wont" turn" on the dock unless I have a minimum of 2 hours tacho time left ( 3 hours to feel a little more comfortable).Of ALL of the container terminals I visit none of them can compete with FXTLE for RTG mechanical /electrical failures. In my experience some of those failures were/are nothing more than RTG operator lead swinging.

    ReplyDelete
  21. So why do POF management let the RTG drivers get away with it ??? there are enough of them !

    ReplyDelete
  22. Either management has no spine or they're scared to rattle the rtg workers cage.Reminds me a little of the old London docks down Silvertown Way where the dockers called the shots,Militant.

  23. Lovely and quiet at LNG tonight. In gate at 18.00 LNG then TTY.Whats the chances of me turning by 21.00 hrs? Or will I have to raise another VBS and try again in the morning. Bolton for 11.00 tomorrow is looking remote. Au Revoir from Britain's Premier Port.

  24. FXTLE,28/7/16@17.15 hrs. Dock quiet. On location sandwiched between 2 RTG's for 30 minutes now and neither of them has moved an inch. And they wonder why they get pelters.I rest my case .

  25. VBS Helpdesk
A 24 hour helpdesk is available Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
At weekends the helpdesk will close at 15:00hrs Saturday and reopen at 23:00hrs Sunday.
The helpdesk can be contacted during these times on 01394 604060.

  26. VBS helpdesk?.Can't stand the sarcasm.Signs everywhere informing that FXTLE staff do not accept verbal or physical abuse, but don't complain or we will call the scuffers and get you banned off the dock. Best policy; bend down and take it up the tailpipe.

  27. Every call is logged !!! keep calling them in a calm manner and eventually a " suit " will see the problem and have to deal with it............thats what they are paid a vast sum of money to do. The majority of Dockers at Felixstowe are good people but that minority just............YOU KNOW

  28. Another day on Trinity, another rtg driver parked two slots in front of me hanging it out for the shift change at 07.00 hrs.Lifted his final box at 06.20 and he's decided he's done enough.Bless.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It's now clear why the RTG hasn't moved since 06.20hrs.He was asleep! His collegue just managed to rouse him at 07.05 then he moved the RTG to the end of block park position.Missed the mini- bus so they sent a van for him.Hilarious listening to the new rtg driver trying to wake him on the intercom.

  30. Great service on Trinity tonight RTG came, lifted 5x20' scrap boxes in no time then my import box was straight on.Good work at 18.30 hrs.

  33. 22/9/06,18.30hrs-LNG-K823.Straddle crane drives off and "hides " up the end of the row in prep for 19.00 hrs exodus.Straight over me and my box is 1st row top of the stack. Absolute lazy sob and complete shithead.
