The police are arresting dockers in the port of Oslo.

I am posting this on behalf of Svein Lundeng

The police are arresting dockers in the port of Oslo.
Arrested for standing up and fighting for what is right. Those running the Port and Yilport should hang their heads in shame but they don't seem to have much of a conscience.

Dockside conflict in Oslo has been going on since last winter, when the Turkish company Yilport took over all loading and unloading of boats.

- Monday morning there was a part of us, that "went wrong" for trucks that were going into the bilhavna on Bekkelagskaia, says deputy head of the Oslo Jetty Workers Association (OBF) Tommy Torgersen Dagsavisen.

- The reason that the police came, is that we may have sought landowner for permission to take action, says Torgersen, who are surprised that the police are mixed into a labor dispute.

Social dumping
- This is social dumping and union busting in municipal auspices, says Lynne Moxnes (Red) on the conflict at the Port.

Blessing
- Oslo harbor is owned by the municipality, and all rules and instructions adopted by the City Council, is applicable to the Oslo harbor. But the management in Oslo harbor, with the city council's blessing, pushing forward social dumping, and they choose to let unloading and loading of ships carried with casual labor and shipping employees, rather than organized dock workers, says Moxnes, which will follow up the case in the City Council.

Yilport refuses to sign a collective agreement with Transport Workers Union, and would rather use its own employees, with the result that 22 dockers were dismissed and 14 laid off. Last week Oslo Discharge and load Office bankrupt, and another 35 lost their jobs.

Hindered transport
Last Tuesday prevented a 50s dockers transfer from Yilports terminals of the Port. Today it was therefore a new action and it may come several actions in the future.

- We summarize every day, so we'll see what we can find on the next time, says Tommy Torgersen in Oslo Jetty Workers Association.

He is one of the 35 who lost their jobs and were deprived of access card to the area.

- Enough with harassment, lies and foolishness from management of the Port and Yilport, he said upset.

- Yilport have an arrogant attitude to Norwegian working life. We have repeatedly requested meetings with them, but they will not negotiate. They were summoned to mediation with the mediation, but even then they would. We were then told to just get started with legal action, he adds.

He sees this bankruptcy as a controlled liquidation of dockers in Oslo.

  2. The use of unskilled labour in port operations is defined as dangerous under International Labour Organisation rules. If this is happening, Norway is in breach of its obligations under I.L.O. regulations. Have the dockers launched a complaint with the International Labour Organisation, in Geneva, asking them to investigate? If Norway is in breach of its obligations under the I.L.O. convention, it could be expelled from the I.L.O., with very serious consequences for Norway's international reputation.
