CSCL Atlantic Ocean departing Felixstowe 1st May 2016

Published on 2 May 2016
The CSCL Atlantic Ocean had 3 tugs fast and the mooring gang was already for the departure at 0900 hours but there was a problem with the lashing gang and the tide slot was decreasing by the minute. The decision of the pilot was to stand down as there would be a serious risk of grounding in the south ship wash with a draft of 14.1 metres and go at the next tide which was 14:30, which would mean a 5 and a half hour delay.
Once again at 14:30 the pilot gets the tugs in position ready to pull her off the berth but with one change from the earlier attempt the pilot has 2 tugs up the bow as the tide would be pushing her back alongside. The Atlantic Ocean safely came off the berth and had Svitzer Deben ready for powered in-direct around the corner also the Svitzer Sky sit by the port quarter just incase of needing a push around the corner
